Criminal Case Initiated Against Tigran Arzakanzyan

The former president of the Democratic Party of Armenia, Tigran Arzakanzyan, has been charged in connection with the forgery of educational documents. This information was reported by "Pastinfo" citing the "Datalex" judicial information system.

It is worth noting that on June 10, the Central Electoral Commission (CEC) invalidated Tigran Arzakanzyan's registration due to inaccuracies in the submitted documents. According to the law, individuals who have resided in the Republic of Armenia for the last four years are eligible to participate in elections, whereas the CEC's calculations indicate that Arzakanzyan was absent from Armenia for 1005 of the 1461 days preceding the submission of the documents.

Arzakanzyan had submitted a certificate claiming that he studied in Russia during the years he was absent from Armenia; however, there were inaccuracies in the certificate.

A criminal case has been initiated regarding this matter, with Tigran Arzakanzyan being charged under the first part of Article 325 of the RA Criminal Code for document forgery. As a preventive measure, he has been assigned a signature obligation not to leave the country. The indictment has been approved, and the case is currently under the jurisdiction of the Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction.

According to the indictment, Tigran Arzakanzyan submitted a counterfeit document numbered 009105 to the Passport and Visa Department of the RA Police on May 25, 2021, claiming that he had studied at the Moscow Institute of Architecture and Construction from February 24, 2018, to June 14, 2019, thereby utilizing a forged document.
