Bayramov Explains Why Iranian Drivers Were 'Punished'

The Minister of Foreign Affairs of Azerbaijan, Jeyhun Bayramov, has explained why Iranian drivers were 'punished'.

"We have expressed our concerns to Iran regarding the passage of Iranian vehicles through the territories of Azerbaijan in Karabakh. Despite this, incidents continue to occur," Bayramov stated, as reported by APA.

He noted that "during inspections, two vehicles belonging to Iranian companies entered the territory of Azerbaijan illegally". He added, "The drivers were arrested, and the vehicles were confiscated. Subsequently, negotiations have continued in various directions, including diplomatic channels. I believe we have achieved a normal outcome. Our goal is to maintain relations with Iran on a positive level, as it has been in the past," he emphasized.

It is worth recalling that Baku's demarche against Tehran, namely the ban on entry to Nagorno-Karabakh, is essentially an attempt to isolate Iran. Two Iranian drivers have effectively been abducted and are being held in Baku. The incident occurred in the area controlled by Azerbaijani forces along the Goris-Kapan highway.
