Over 100 Pregnant Women Hospitalized with Covid-19, More than 50 Diagnosed with Pneumonia: Anahit Avanesyan

In an interview with Public Television, Armenia's Minister of Health Anahit Avanesyan presented the reasons behind the high mortality rate due to COVID-19 in the country. According to Avanesyan, the Delta variant of the virus is much more aggressive and leads to a more severe course of the disease. There has also been a sharp deterioration in the condition of many young citizens, who do not have chronic illnesses.

She emphasized that there is an increase in infections among pregnant women associated with this variant. Currently, more than 100 pregnant women are being treated in two medical centers, with over 50 diagnosed with pneumonia.

The Minister of Health noted a significant increase in vaccinations over the past month. A total of 817,290 vaccinations have been administered in the country. More than 562,000 citizens (28%) have received the first dose of the vaccine, while 254,000 citizens (12%) have been fully vaccinated with the second dose.

Avanesyan also provided data on vaccinated citizens who have contracted the virus. "Out of the current 36,938 active positive cases, only 1,872 are vaccinated. Among them, only 94 have been hospitalized, and just 7 are severely ill," she stated.
