For What Merit Are Prosecutors Rewarded? 'Joghovurd'
‘Joghovurd’ daily reports: ‘The Office of the Prosecutor General of Armenia has set a precedent in terms of salary increases for its employees. The Ministry of Justice proposes to provide bonuses to prosecutors and their colleagues that could reach up to 120% of their salary. It remains unclear on what grounds the salaries of high-ranking officials in the prosecutor's office, such as the prosecutor and his deputies, are being increased astronomically; perhaps only the government knows.
It is unclear what quality of Prosecutor Arthur Davtyan has impressed Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan, leading him to overlook the fact that Davtyan and his deputies previously sought to imprison him. It should be noted that there have been no new revelations in the ‘March 1’ case, no murders have been solved, nor has any of the much-discussed illegal property and theft been seized and returned to the budget. Moreover, all kinds of robbers continue to enjoy their lives freely.
It seems that Pashinyan’s government perceives law enforcement solely as a support base, motivating staff of security agencies to work while healthcare workers, who tirelessly stood by around the clock during the pandemic and fought on two fronts during wartime, continue to work without complaint. Just yesterday, ambulance drivers were staging a protest demanding a salary increase. Against the backdrop of ambulance drivers working 24-hour shifts for 110,000 drams, prosecutors and their deputies are demanding bonuses not of 10, 20, or even 30, but rather an immediate 120%. We hope that public officials at least realize what disastrous consequences could result from even one minute of inaction from the ambulance drivers.
