Vaccinations with AstraZeneca Halted in Georgia
Starting November 1, vaccinations against COVID-19 with the British-Swedish AstraZeneca vaccine have been suspended in Georgia, reports Aliq.ge.
Those who received the first dose of AstraZeneca will be offered Pfizer, Sinopharm, or Sinovac as alternatives.
The head of the National Center for Disease Control, Amiran Gamkrelidze, noted that the expiration date of the available AstraZeneca vaccine in Georgia has passed. The country’s chief epidemiologist indicated that around 15,000 doses of AstraZeneca could not be used up.
In total, 61,456 people have been vaccinated in Georgia with this vaccine, developed with the support of scientists from Oxford University. Consequently, AstraZeneca has had the lowest number of vaccinations in the country.
Vaccinations commenced on March 15, during which time AstraZeneca was administered to individuals aged 45 and older.
