The Detention of Aghvan Hovsepyan Extended for Another Two Months
The detention of Aghvan Hovsepyan has been extended for another two months. The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Davit Arghamanyan, granted a petition to extend the detention period of the former Prosecutor General of Armenia and former Head of the Investigative Committee Aghvan Hovsepyan by an additional two months. This information was reported to 'Factinfo' by expert Erik Aleksanyan.
A complaint against the court's decision will be filed in the Court of Appeals.
It is noteworthy that Aghvan Hovsepyan was arrested on September 7 in the morning. The investigative body has charged Hovsepyan within the framework of a criminal case that has been under investigation for about 1.5 years and submitted a motion to the court to choose detention as a measure of restraint, which was accepted by Judge Mnacakan Martirosyan.
Moreover, the investigative body has not been able to attribute any wrongdoing related to his professional activities to Hovsepyan, who has held the highest leadership positions in law enforcement agencies for nearly 45 years. He has been charged with conducting illegal entrepreneurial activities, with the alleged characteristics of money laundering.
Furthermore, in its decision on detention, the court noted that there is no probability of hiding from the investigation, and referred to his previously held high positions as a reason for possible influence on the investigation, without citing any actual examples.
