Authorities in Meghri Seek to Implement 'Gyumri' Operation
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports: 'For unknown reasons, a council session is not being convened in Meghri, during which the community leader is supposed to be elected. It should be noted that none of the participating forces have a majority here, and the government will be formed through a coalition. At the forefront is the 'Republic' party led by Meghri's Bagrat Zakaryan. The second position is held by the Prosperous Armenia Party (PAP), and the 'Living Land' party has also surpassed the threshold.
According to the law, elections should have been held before the council's powers expired, but the authorities violated this legal requirement and appointed a KP affiliate as acting mayor. This indicates that the law has not been working in this community for a long time, while the community's interest suggests that a new council should be formed as soon as possible, a mayor should be elected, and solutions to community issues should be pursued.
It remains unclear why the acting mayor, who is endowed with these powers, is not convening a session; Ararat Tumanyan did not respond to our calls, nor did a representative of the 'Republic' party. It is evident that the authorities in Meghri also want to carry out the 'Gyumri' operation by seizing victory from the elected force.'
