The Former Mayor of Stepanavan to be Detained

Gor Abrahamyan, advisor to the Attorney General of Armenia, wrote on his Facebook page: "The first instance court of general jurisdiction of Lori region has granted the request to select detention as a preventive measure against the former head of the Stepanavan community, S.G., who was also attended by a prosecutor overseeing the legality of the preliminary investigation in the case.

It should be recalled that on October 29, charges were brought against the former community leader for abuse of office and money laundering, leading to his arrest. Evidence has been obtained during the investigation indicating that from 2004 to 2012, S.G., having visibly abused his official powers, illegally alienated plots of land from a common use area classified as a park, public land from state forests, as well as from municipal land parcels, by separating them and transferring them to various individuals, including his cousin's son and the "Revival" charitable foundation he established, which was registered with a LLC created by the foundation.

Subsequently, to conceal the criminal origin of assets, he transferred a total of 1.433 hectares of real estate formally registered in the names of the aforementioned individuals and legal entities through alienation in 2014 and 2017 to his sons, with whom he resides.
