Saakashvili Appeals to Georgia, References Armenia and Pashinyan

The results of the local self-government elections have angered Georgia's third president, Mikheil Saakashvili. He has drawn parallels with the Armenian people and Prime Minister Nikol Pashinyan.

Saakashvili wrote on his Facebook page that he feels humiliated and deeply angry, and that any respectable Georgian should share this sentiment. The former president urged the public to overthrow the current government and hold officials accountable.

“This is how our neighbor Armenia acted. Pashinyan fought against four oligarchs of Ivanishvili’s caliber. There too, the elections were falsified, but the Armenian people still won,” Saakashvili noted.

According to him, the people of Armenia took to the streets and protested until the bandit government was defeated and snap elections were called. Saakashvili believes that such actions should also take place in Georgia.

Yesterday, the second round of local self-government elections took place in Georgia. According to preliminary data from the Central Election Commission, candidates from the ruling party “Georgian Dream-Democratic Georgia” won in 19 out of 20 municipalities. Although the ruling party concentrated all resources in the second round, it managed to win by a very narrow margin.

It should be noted that Mikheil Saakashvili, a citizen of Ukraine, has been sentenced in absentia in Georgia for the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani and for the assault on MP Valeri Gelashvili. He has been sentenced to three years for the first charge and six years for the second. Furthermore, Saakashvili is involved in the cases concerning the dispersal of an opposition rally on November 7, 2007, the attack on “Imedi” television channel, and the embezzlement of state budget funds. These cases are still under trial, and no verdicts have been delivered yet.
