Khachatur Sukiasyan's Brother Released on 50 Million Dram Bail
The Yerevan Court of General Jurisdiction, presided over by Judge Vache Margaryan, has ruled to release Robert Sukiasyan, the brother of the parliament member from the 'Civil Contract' party Khachatur Sukiasyan, on a bail of 50 million drams. This information was confirmed in an interview with Armenpress by Sukiasyan's lawyer, Gor Mikaelyan. He noted that the preliminary investigation of the case has been completed, but he still does not have information on whether the case has been sent to court.
According to a statement released by the Investigation Committee, on July 18, 2021, at approximately 19:15, Robert Sukiasyan got into an argument with Narek Karapetyan and a group of individuals, including a woman who is a friend of his, over the latter's honking at them during traffic on Amiryan Street in Yerevan. During the altercation, the individuals involved displayed open contempt toward society, hurling insults and engaging in mutual physical attacks.
At that moment, driven by the desire to assert his personal advantage, Robert Sukiasyan struck Narek Karapetyan in the face first with his head, then with his fist. Following this, he brandished and demonstratively loaded his legally owned 9x17 caliber Browning handgun, firing two shots toward Karapetyan's feet, creating an atmosphere of fear among those nearby.
Subsequently, Sukiasyan also fired at Narek Karapetyan's friend with the same handgun, causing a gunshot wound to the right fibula before fleeing the scene. Criminal charges have been brought against Robert Sukiasyan under Article 258, Part 4 of the Criminal Code of the Republic of Armenia, pertaining to hooliganism committed with the use of a weapon, and he was taken into custody.
Criminal charges have also been brought against a 46-year-old man and the victim Narek Karapetyan, for whom an arrest warrant has been issued. Sukiasyan admits to having fired shots but does not accept the charges against him.
