Attempted Fraud: State Official Arrested

In the investigation conducted by the investigation unit of the Yerevan City Investigative Department of the RA Investigative Committee, circumstances surrounding the attempted fraud and bribery by the Deputy Head of the administrative staff of the Norq-Marash administrative district of Yerevan have been uncovered.

Specifically, the investigation has obtained information indicating that the Deputy Head attempted to fraudulently sell a plot of land located in the new Norq administrative district, which is community property, by presenting it as his own. He aimed to embezzle a substantial sum of 4,834,900 AMD from a citizen interested in buying the land.

Furthermore, using his official position, the Deputy Head demanded a substantial bribe of 4,000 USD from the buyer to organize the privatization process of the mentioned plot of land, to eliminate potential obstacles during the construction of an unauthorized building on the land before the privatization process started, provide advice, and perform other services related to his position. The buyer consented to this demand.

As a result of ongoing investigative and procedural actions, as well as operational-Intelligence measures, the Deputy Head of the Norq-Marash administrative district has been arrested on suspicion of committing a crime under the first part of the third paragraph of Article 34-178 and the second part of the fourth paragraph of Article 311 of the RA Criminal Code. The preliminary investigation is ongoing.
