WHO Calls for Schools Not to Close

The WHO Regional Office for Europe calls on governments not to close schools while implementing preventive and restrictive measures against the spread of coronavirus. This was reported by TASS.

“Last week, half of European countries reported an increase in coronavirus infection rates among various age groups,” the statement from the office reads.

Against this backdrop, 45 countries are advised not to close schools, while 7 countries have chosen to partially or fully close educational institutions.

The Regional Office believes that interruptions in children's education should only occur as a last resort. “The widespread closure of schools last year disrupted the education of millions of children and adolescents, causing more harm than good. We cannot repeat the same mistakes,” the statement adds.
