The Government Acknowledges That Azerbaijan Will Have a Road to Nakhichevan

According to the "Zhoghovurd" daily, Gagik Melkonyan, a member of the parliamentary faction of the "Civil Contract" party, asserts that there is no official meeting scheduled in Moscow in the near future. Regarding meetings in general, he emphasizes that they are necessary, as there are issues concerning border demarcation and delimitation. In a conversation with the "Zhoghovurd" daily, he noted that Azerbaijan is set to receive a road through Armenian territory leading to Nakhichevan.

“We refer to it as a road, they call it a corridor, but we will not be granting them a corridor. We are providing routes—be it a railway or a highway. Now, how do we enter and exit Artsakh? They should be able to do the same and have a road from Azerbaijan to Nakhichevan,” he stated.

When asked if he is confident that the Armenian side will maintain control over this road, Melkonyan did not provide a clear answer. He mentioned that discussions about who will oversee the road will occur once it is established. According to him, there should be a customs checkpoint on this road, similar to the one at the Armenia-Georgia border. “But how do we, for example, go to Artsakh without customs checkpoints, only through transit points? It is also possible that they could enter and exit freely. In the end, it should be this way; we need to work towards opening the roads. The Martakert-Vardenis and the routes from Ghazakh to Georgia should also be opened,” added the ruling party member.

It turns out that the government not only acknowledges that Azerbaijan will have a road to Nakhichevan, but is also uncertain about whether the Armenian side will exercise control over this road. Moreover, through this route, Azerbaijanis may be able to enter and exit easily and comfortably.
