Relations between Armenia and Turkey have always been a priority for Washington, says Sargsyan
If you want to lose a war, you must first dismantle your army, then your foreign ministry, and your defeat is guaranteed. This was a very typical situation for us, and this process continues today. This was stated earlier today by Suren Sargsyan, founder of the American Armenian Research Center, during his speech at the conference titled 'Lost Victory: Betrayal or Ignorance.'
'Relations between Armenia and Turkey have always been a priority for Washington because the USA calculated that it could bring its influence into our region through the gates of Turkey, but now they understand that this is impossible. There is a perception that Turkey is like the prodigal son for the Americans, who has strayed away but is expected to return,' said Sargsyan, discussing the US missions prior to the ensuing war.
'Today's Turkey is different from the Turkey of 5-10 years ago in terms of its involvement in international and regional processes; it is more aggressive and acts with impunity. If the Armenian-Turkish borders are opened, and issues with Azerbaijan are resolved, then a very natural question will arise: what will happen to the Russian military base here?' He also pointed out that during the days of the war, the USA was actually in quite a difficult situation due to the coronavirus and elections, and under those harsh circumstances, the USA certainly was not thinking about Armenia. The USA did not impede Moscow's actions.'
