Powerful Eruption Occurred on the Sun Yesterday: What Consequences Could It Have for Earth

A powerful X-class solar flare was recorded on the Sun on the evening of October 28. This was reported on the website of the Laboratory of X-Ray Astronomy of the Sun of the National Academy of Sciences.

The eruption began at 19:17 Yerevan time and lasted for 31 minutes. In just two days, there have been 28 weak, moderate, and strong eruptions on the Sun, as noted on the website.

The activity index of the eruption has been raised to ‘orange’ level, just slightly below reaching the ‘red level.’ These eruptions are solar material ejections from the surface of the star. Depending on the point and direction of the ejection, the plasma cloud could either envelop Earth or pass by it. In the former case, such events can cause magnetic storms in Earth's magnetosphere.

As of now, RIA Novosti has been unable to obtain comments from laboratory staff regarding the consequences of the solar eruption for Earth.
