Five Cases of New AY.4.2 Coronavirus Variant Discovered in Russia

Scientists have discovered five cases of a new AY.4.2 coronavirus variant. Three of these cases were identified in Moscow and the surrounding area, while two were reported in Tatarstan, as announced to journalists on Friday by Kamil Hafizov, head of the scientific group for the development of new diagnostic methods for human diseases at the "Rospotrebnadzor" epidemiology center.

“Currently, five isolated cases of the new coronavirus related to the Delta AY.4.2 subline have been identified in the Russian Federation, and they have all significant genetic differences,” Hafizov stated.
