Why the Governor Resigned: 'Hraparak'

'Hraparak' newspaper reports: 'The unexpected resignation of Aragatsotn governor Davit Gevorgyan yesterday is, according to our information, related to the local self-government elections. More specifically, it concerns disagreements with the party regarding the candidates from the Civil Contract party. Gevorgyan has decided to follow the example of Ararat governor Razmik Tevonyan, hoping that he, too, will be persuaded to withdraw his resignation, as was the case with Tevonyan's resignation. However, unlike Tevonyan, there is significant dissatisfaction with Gevorgyan in the party. While Tevonyan succeeded in bringing former Republican Party communities under his influence, Gevorgyan has done the opposite; he has divided the province and worsened relationships with community heads just before the elections on June 20, as threats were made, attempting to break and subdue them. As a result, today, the governor lacks complete control in the province, and someone needs to change this situation. In this regard, Razmik Petrosyan, the deputy governor and the commander of the 'Aparan' detachment, is a suitable candidate since he has a quite good reputation in the region.'

Details in today's issue of the newspaper.
