Major Fire in Yerevan. Large Number of Firefighters Arrive

On October 28, an emergency incident occurred in Yerevan. At around 3:35 PM, a signal was received at the 911 operational management center of the Ministry of Emergency Situations from the community police officer of the Mashtots police division, indicating that smoke was visible from one of the apartments in the 6/2 building of the Davidashen 3rd district.

According to Shamshyan.com, initial reports indicate that, fortunately, there are no casualties. It was determined on the spot that the fire was not due to gas or electrical issues. The operation was led by the shift commander of the 7th fire rescue squad, Avdalyan. A fire engine from the Ministry of Emergency Situations’ 4th fire rescue squad also arrived as a backup.

In a conversation with a photographer, several citizens mentioned that this apartment has been occupied by Alvard Manukyan for over 20 years, and now some official from the Davidashen municipality appears to have set their sights on this area, trying to take a significant part of the apartment from the elderly woman.

“But who has seen an official treating an elderly woman like that in the 21st century? Mrs. Alvard has repeatedly approached the relevant authorities to resolve the issue, but each time has been met with indifference while false information is being spread that the woman set fire to her apartment because officials came to take parts of it,” they said.

In an interview with the photographer, A. Manukyan stated, “There was no arson. I was cooking on a small gas stove, then I stepped out of the house for a moment, and suddenly I see smoke coming out of the window. We called the Ministry of Emergency Situations, and the firefighters arrived within minutes. Yes, some of the belongings in the house were burned, but thanks to the firefighters, the spread of the fire was contained. Now I will be staying at my relatives' house until my home is fixed, but every moment officials from the municipality will come as uninvited guests and disturb me.”

After the fire was contained by the firefighters, it was revealed that the entire apartment's belongings, approximately 250 square meters, were burned, and several apartments on that floor were connected to form one unit. A response team from Yerevan’s 1-03 emergency medical services also arrived at the scene to assist A. Manukyan.
