Ruling Political Force Continues to Exploit October 27 Issue: Aghvan Vardanyan
The October 27th crime has long hindered the development of our country. In an interview with 'Factinfo', Aghvan Vardanyan, a member of the 'Armenia' faction, noted that we have learned few lessons from the tragic event, especially considering the behavior of the ruling political force.
According to the parliamentarian, 'the ruling political force continues to exploit the October 27 issue, driven by its narrow group interests.' When asked what hinders the complete uncovering of the case 22 years after the incident, given that many individuals have been interrogated on this matter, Vardanyan responded that the October 27 case has been thoroughly investigated, and all attendees in the parliament that day were interrogated, including himself.
'A part of the case has been separated, but no matter how much they try to exploit the issue, no other plausible hypothesis has been put forward during these 22 years. This was such a crime against our state that I do not rule out that even decades later, it may not be possible to determine whether this was merely an act by a few rogues or if there was participation by agents directed by the security bodies of other countries. This is a very complex issue, but those who unequivocally point to specific addresses do so for the purpose of narrow political exploitation,' Vardanyan emphasized, noting that this strike was directed at our statehood and that some truths may emerge even decades later.
'What exists in the case materials does not provide such grounds; I repeat, the current government’s exploitations are purely for political manipulation and a desire to blame the former ones—nothing else lies underneath,' Vardanyan stated.
At the start of the 8th convocation of the National Assembly, several security measures were undertaken in the parliament, justifying that it was the scene of the October 27 incident, while Justice Minister Karen Andreasyan drew parallels between present journalists and Nairi Hunanyan, the initiator of the October 27 massacre, who was also a journalist. In Vardanyan's assessment, 'these are expressions of a sick mind.'
