Over Ten Individuals Interrogated in New Investigation of October 27 Case, Including Those Currently Detained - Abrahamyan

In the context of a new investigation into the October 27 case, over ten individuals have been interrogated, including all those convicted in connection with the case who are currently in custody. This information was disclosed by Gor Abrahamyan, advisor to the Prosecutor General of Armenia, to Sputnik Armenia.

The widow of the late Deputy Speaker of the National Assembly, Yuri Bakshyan, Anahit Bakshyan, and her lawyer had submitted a request to the Prosecutor General in 2019 to reopen a criminal case regarding the organizers and instigators linked to the October 27 events. This request was granted on the grounds that Bakshyan's rights had been violated during the initial decision to terminate the proceedings, preventing him from reviewing the case materials and presenting his position as a victim's legal successor.

Following this, the investigation was resumed and assigned to the investigative department of the National Security Service (NSS). Subsequently, Prosecutor General Arthur Davtyan sent a directive to the NSS to conduct necessary operational and investigative measures in specific directions. The investigation was reopened, an investigative group was formed, and an investigative plan was developed.

“Numerous documents have been seized, and relevant materials from the archive of the completed judicial department have been confiscated, including recordings associated with the case, which have been sent for examination,” said Abrahamyan.

According to him, the investigation of several hypotheses is not proceeding in a specific direction, and the primary challenge is determining the possible involvement of other individuals and instigators in the October 27 crimes, as well as identifying those linked to the illegal weapons and ammunition used during the killings. Additionally, it addresses the actions of officials who were obligated to prevent such developments in their official capacity.

“All actions must receive specific legal assessments,” the advisor to the Prosecutor General stated.
