No Sitzung in the National Assembly Discussing the Consent to Deprive Charchyan of Freedom, Vardevanyan
The measure of restraint selected for Armen Charchyan does not correspond to his health condition. During a conversation with reporters in the National Assembly, Member of Parliament Aram Vardevanyan of the 'Armenia' faction stated that the Minister of Health, knowing Armen Charchyan's role in the health sector, remains inactive.
“We have provided complete information to all European structures. Even during our meetings with certain individuals, we inform them about this, and we are receiving some elements of agreement from these individuals that what is happening to Armen Charchyan is indeed political persecution. This means that because a person has positioned himself from an opposition standpoint, should he be kept in detention by all means?” Vardevanyan emphasized.
He also pointed out that we are talking about MP Armen Charchyan, and there has been no session in the National Assembly where the question of granting consent to deprive Armen Charchyan of his freedom has been decided.
“I am confident that the option of appealing to the European Court of Human Rights is also being discussed. We submitted an application to the Constitutional Court in a short time regarding the violation of the status and immunity of the MP in such an outrageous manner. The Constitutional Court has scheduled a hearing quite quickly, which is set for December 6. Do the law enforcement agencies and those involved in this situation not realize the consequences if the Constitutional Court records the simple truth that they could not carry out such actions?” the MP noted.
He emphasized that these authorities are keeping Armen Charchyan in a hostage-like status: “I want to remind many officials that this will remain on their conscience. They have already had a case in the past three years, referring to Manvel Grigoryan,” the MP remarked, adding that Armen Charchyan had once been transferred to a medical institution in a near-comatose state.
