Netflix Does Not Pay Bonuses to Director of 'Squid Game' for Show's Success, The Guardian
The creator and director of the South Korean hit series 'Squid Game', Hwang Dong-hyuk, has stated that he has not received bonuses from Netflix for the show's global success. He spoke about this in an interview with The Guardian.
"I'm not as rich as the winner in the series, who receives $38.5 million, but I have enough," said Hwang. "Netflix has not paid me bonuses; I received only the amount that was originally written in the contract." The publication called this situation unfair, as Hwang has brought the platform multimillion-dollar profits.
The idea for 'Squid Game' emerged in the director's mind back in 2009, when the Republic of Korea faced a global financial crisis. He has been searching for funding for his project for over 10 years.
