The Deceased Were Employees of ‘Hayantar’ SNCO: Romanos Petrosyan on the Victims of the Berd-Jambarak Accident
On October 25, at 21:39, information was received at the Tavush Regional Crisis Management Center that a road traffic accident had occurred near the 15th km of the Berd-Jambarak highway, resulting in 3 deaths and 1 injury.
Minister of Environment Romanos Petrosyan posted on his Facebook page, informing that the deceased are employees of the ‘Hayantar’ SNCO.
“It is with great sorrow that I must state that the deceased and injured citizens as a result of the incident are forest rangers from the Navur Forestry Department of the ‘Arzvaberd’ Branch of the Forest Committee under the Ministry of Environment. They lost control of their vehicle during a nighttime inspection and fell into a gorge. The director of the ‘Arzvaberd’ branch is currently in one of the capital’s medical institutions with serious injuries, but his life is not in danger. I extend my condolences to the families, relatives, and friends of our colleagues; I wish them strength and resilience. I thank our colleagues for their selfless and altruistic service.
The incident occurred in one of the most problematic regions, in the ‘T’tsu Joor’ area of the Navur Forestry Department of the ‘Arzvaberd’ branch, where illegal logging has recently intensified, and reports have been submitted to law enforcement regarding several cases of forest violations. This unfortunate incident is yet another signal that we must awaken to and refrain from the reprehensible practice of illegal logging,” he wrote.
