Amnesty to Be Announced

According to the newspaper "Jhoghovurd," active discussions are ongoing in prisons about the possibility that the newly appointed Minister of Justice will announce an amnesty at the end of November or the beginning of December. Incidentally, according to reports, this amnesty is not related to military personnel.

"Jhoghovurd" contacted the Ministry of Justice, where officials stated that they do not have such information. It is noted that the government intends to grant amnesty to citizens who participated in the 44-day war and are facing criminal charges related to military service violations.

A draft law on amnesty proposed by the Investigative Committee is circulating on the unified website for the publication of legal acts. The committee presents the aim of its proposal as a way to appreciate the citizens who stood by the Armenian Armed Forces during the war, highlighting that "this demonstrates a humanitarian approach towards individuals who committed crimes against military service regulations."

Although there is no statistical information provided, and it is unclear how many individuals will benefit from the amnesty if adopted, the draft mentions that amnesty will be granted to those suspected, accused, or convicted of committing minor and medium severity offenses up until the start of the war on September 26, as well as military personnel convicted of offenses against military service regulations from November 9 to March 24, after the cessation of hostilities.
