The Turk is Sitting Over Our Heads: The Village Chief Tells What is Happening in the Kut Community
Starting from June 5, 80 cows that fell under the control of Azerbaijanis in the border village of Kut, Syunik province, have not received any compensation, nor have the cows been returned. This was stated by the village leader, Sima Chitchyan, in an interview with NEWS.am.
“The villagers are now busy gathering potato harvests, going to neighboring communities to collect potatoes for money, and are still waiting for compensation. If there is no compensation, how will they live? The Turk is sitting over our heads, there is no pasture, no hayfield, no livestock, what should they do here? Until now, our villagers have been engaged in animal husbandry; there is no other job in the village that they can do to survive,” he noted.
It is worth mentioning that the 80 cows that fell under Azerbaijani control belonged to 5 families. The community leader noted that they have been unable to bring back sufficient animal feed from the hayfields, as there have been no normal pastures, and in the autumn, villagers had to slaughter some of their livestock to manage. “We sold meat for 1000-1100 drams. Since the Azerbaijanis have appeared near the village, our lives have become difficult, and I don’t even know how it will be in the future.”
The Kut community head mentioned that currently, it is relatively calm, and they do not hear many gunshots. It is recalled that since May 12, the enemy has advanced several kilometers into the Syunik and Gegharkunik regions, violating the Armenian-Azerbaijani border, claiming that it is their territory and that they will not withdraw. In Gegharkunik region, the enemy has advanced towards the villages of Kut, Azat, Norabak, and Verin Shorja.
