Colombia's Most Wanted Criminal and Drug Cartel Leader Captured
Colombian authorities have captured the country’s most wanted criminal, drug dealer, and leader of the Clan del Golfo criminal organization, Dairo Antonio Usuga (Otoniel). He was apprehended in his jungle hideout by the nation’s armed forces. During the operation, one policeman was killed.
Colombia had offered a reward of up to 3 billion pesos (approximately $800,000) for information regarding Otoniel's whereabouts, while the United States government set a $5 million bounty for details leading to his capture.
“This is the biggest blow to drug trafficking in our country this century,” said President Ivan Duque in a video message regarding the criminal’s arrest, emphasizing that “this blow is comparable only to the fall of Pablo Escobar in the 1990s.”
