The US has conducted an airstrike targeting one of the leaders of Al-Qaeda in Syria. According to Kommersant, this is reported in a statement from the US Central Command.
The report indicates that Al-Qaeda uses Syria as a sanctuary to regroup, as well as to plan and coordinate operations outside the country's borders.
The airstrike was carried out using an MQ-9 drone. "Today, a senior Al-Qaeda leader, Abdul Hamid al-Matar, was killed in an airstrike conducted in northwestern Syria," the US agency's statement said.
