Merkel Admits Her Clothing Color Sometimes Carried Political Signals

German Chancellor Angela Merkel has admitted that her clothing color sometimes contained certain political signals and noted that a "new era begins" after leaving the position of government leader.

“Sometimes,” Merkel said in an interview with Suddeutsche Zeitung. She mentioned that she is not planning to donate her clothes to museums. “They go to those in need - for clothing collection points. Regularly. I do not give clothes to the museum,” Merkel stated.

She also explained why she has always avoided the term "migration crisis." “Yes, that’s true. I generally avoid this term (in German, it is one word) because a refugee to me is not a crisis, but a person,” she emphasized.

Merkel also noted that in her opinion, the mistakes related to the flow of illegal migrants were made “long before” the peak of the migration crisis in the autumn of 2015.

Merkel expressed regret that “the political atmosphere in the country has become tougher.” “When I became chancellor, there were no smartphones yet. Facebook and Twitter existed a year apart. We live in a completely changed media world, and this (the change in the political atmosphere) is also connected to that,” Merkel said.

The new German government is expected to be formed in early December.
