When Will the Pandemic End or Diminish in Armenia: Arsen Torosyan

The Minister of Health of Armenia and MP from the ruling Civil Contract party, Arsen Torosyan, addressed a question from a user during a Facebook live session with Radio Free Europe/Radio Liberty regarding when the pandemic will end or weaken in Armenia.

He stated, “It depends on the reproductive rate of the virus and the percentage of vaccinated individuals in the population, beyond which the transmission will not increase. Currently, there are no definitive numbers for COVID-19; however, for instance, in the case of measles, which is, by the way, more contagious than the coronavirus, we know that 95 percent is the desired figure to break the chains of infection so that the virus remains isolated and does not spread further. In the case of COVID-19, discussing a 90 percent vaccination rate is, of course, premature since we still do not have an approved vaccine for children.”
