Putin: 'Maps are in the General Staff of the Russian Federation' on Armenian-Azerbaijani Conflict

Today, Russian President Vladimir Putin announced during a speech at the Valdai International Club that the leaders of Armenia and Azerbaijan have demonstrated political wisdom by halting the bloodshed in Nagorno-Karabakh.

"Today, it is necessary to create conditions for long-term resolution. This is only possible if both countries appreciate the advantages of peaceful coexistence. Then transportation routes and economic ties in the region will be opened, which will create conditions for the security of both Azerbaijan and Armenia. The situation in Nagorno-Karabakh has been maintained so far, although it has not been without incidents. However, it is difficult to envision an ideal picture after so many years of enmity. The resolution of the situation regarding the borders of Nagorno-Karabakh cannot be achieved without Russia's involvement because the maps of the borders are in the General Staff of the Russian Federation," said Putin, noting that the resolution of the border issue between Armenia and Azerbaijan requires compromises.
