Former Republican Becomes Candidate for Civil Contract: 'Kinsman is Sacred'
The newspaper 'Hraparak' reports that after a long search, the ruling Civil Contract party has finally decided on its candidate for the city mayor of Artik. According to our sources, the choice of the Civil Contract has fallen on the current mayor, Mikhtar Varagyan.
The reason is twofold. Firstly, the elections on October 17 have prompted the Civil Contract to consider a candidate who is strong and accepted by the local population. Secondly, and perhaps equally important, is that Mikhtar Varagyan's wealthy brother, David Varagyan, who lives in Kazakhstan, is the godfather at the wedding of Hayk Sargsyan, a favorite of Nikol Pashinyan and a parliament member. For Civil Contract members, 'the kinsman is sacred,' as evidenced by the case of Hayk Ghalumyan. Thus, the stars have aligned, and Mikhtar Varagyan's luck seems to have turned around.
Varagyan could be considered a blend of Republican and Civil Contract. We attempted to discuss this topic with Mikhtar Varagyan, who initially said he was not comfortable speaking and later simply ignored our calls.
