Former Officials Refuse to Shorten Criminal Cases: 'Haykakan Zham' Report
The daily newspaper 'Haykakan Zham' reports: The newspaper has learned that an interesting situation has arisen regarding criminal cases initiated against former officials or their close associates after the revolution, and they have encountered a dilemma.
ArmLur.am reported yesterday that former Minister of Defense Seyran Ohanyan and former chairman of the Public Services Regulatory Commission Robert Nazaryan have been summoned by the Special Investigative Service (SIS) regarding the criminal case against Ohanyan. They have been offered to shorten the criminal charges against him; in response, Ohanyan stated that he would prefer to be exonerated instead of having the case shortened.
His attorney, Karen Mejlumyan, confirmed this information in an interview with 'Haykakan Zham'. Notably, this is not an isolated incident. Investigators are summoning several other former officials regarding criminal cases against them, offering to reduce charges, which they reject, demanding exoneration instead.
As a result, these criminal cases are neither being shortened nor are the defendants being exonerated, leaving the fate of these cases hanging in the air.
