Yerevan's Issue Closed with Local Elections, Mayor Marutyan Delighted
The results of the local elections on October 17 have brought joy to Yerevan Mayor Hayk Marutyan and strengthened his position. It is worth noting that for a long time, Nikol Pashinyan's team has been trying to get rid of him at all costs and conduct early elections in Yerevan. After the results from Gyumri and Goris, it has become clear that if the situation in the regions is such, then it will be almost impossible for the ruling ‘Civil Contract’ party to win in Yerevan, which means that Marutyan will serve until the end of his term.
Marutyan himself has expressed hope to his circle that the issue concerning Yerevan has been definitively closed with these elections. It should be noted that within the government, there was such a negative attitude towards Marutyan that discussions were held on making amendments to the law on administrative-territorial division and possibly conducting new elections by joining Parakar to Yerevan.
