Will New Russian Schools Open in Armenia? Dumanyan Responds
Currently, this question is not on the agenda, but we have a desire to develop knowledge of foreign languages, including Russian, English, and French. This was stated by Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Vahram Dumanyan during a press briefing after a government meeting on October 21. He was responding to a question about whether new Russian schools would be opening in Armenia, as discussed by the foreign ministers of Russia and Armenia.
Dumanyan mentioned that he is not familiar with any announcements framed in that manner, suggesting that it may relate to the development of programs: “Honestly, I haven’t encountered such a formulation. If you have a reference, I would ask you to share it with me. The wording might have been a bit different; there was interest expressed regarding certain programs. Our ministry has not communicated with Lavrov, but indeed, any program deserves attention,” he said.
Journalists quoted Sergey Lavrov’s statement made days earlier: “In Tajikistan, five Russian schools are opening under our complete teaching methodology program. A similar program is now being prepared for Uzbekistan. Recently, Armenia's new leadership has expressed interest in having a similar program established here.”
The Minister of Education reiterated that he is not familiar with any announcements framed as such but emphasized the importance of popularizing the Russian language, especially in the modern world where communication is a vital tool.
