Why Iran Urged Drivers Not to Enter Lachin and Karabakh: Armen Petrosyan's Commentary
Arabist Armen Petrosyan writes on his Facebook page: “After the Director of the International Cargo Transportation Office of Iran’s Road and Transport Organization, Javad Hedayati, urged cargo transportation companies in a letter the day before to 'strictly urge Iranian citizens and drivers to avoid possible consequences and respect Azerbaijan's territorial integrity by not entering Lachin and Karabakh from Armenian territory, and to refrain from signing any trade agreements with Karabakh,' Azerbaijan released Iranian drivers who had been detained on the Goris-Kapan highway.
Although this 'urging' is difficult to assess as a legal act, it should be noted that Baku managed to extract at least such a message from Tehran regarding this long-standing issue.
