Unknown Disease Claims Lives of 165 Children in Africa

At least 165 children have died from an unknown disease in the area around the city of Gungu, located in the southwestern part of the Democratic Republic of Congo, according to ActuaLitte.

The mysterious illness was first reported in August and primarily affects children under five years old.

Alan Nzamba, the community leader of the Lozo-Munene and Kinzamba villages, stated that four children are dying each day. “The disease’s progression is similar to malaria but is accompanied by anemia,” said Dr. Jean-Pierre Bashasha.

Health ministry specialists have been dispatched to the region to identify the source of the infection and develop measures to protect against the disease.
