More than 30 police officers deployed amid tense situation in Nor-Nork administrative district

On the evening of October 20, a tense situation arose in the Nor-Nork administrative district on Hunan Avetisyan Street, 7th block. According to photojournalist Gagik Shamshyan, the Yerevan City Hall arrived unannounced to dismantle two garages that had been built on a site previously used as a dump. Despite residents’ insistence, no legal basis for the demolition was presented.

A large number of police forces gathered at the scene, leading to a scuffle between them and the citizens, which resulted in several individuals being taken to the Nor-Nork police station.

Residents confirmed in a conversation with SHAMSHYAN.com’s correspondent that the area used to be a dump and was notorious for its stench, which they had cleaned up themselves, building two garages in the process. They also mentioned that one resident had continuously transported supplies to Artsakh during the last war using his personal vehicle, but his efforts seemed to be disregarded today. After some time, officials from the city hall began demolishing the garages and leveling the land.
