New Details on the Tragic Accident from Gyumri to Yerevan: There Are Victims and Injured
Today, October 20, a major and tragic car accident occurred in the Aragatsotn region. Around 07:00, a passenger 'Gazelle' vehicle traveling towards Yerevan on the 50 km segment of the Yerevan-Gyumri highway left the roadway, collided with rocks and concrete barriers placed on the newly constructed North-South Road, rolled over several times, and ended up outside the roadway.
According to Shamshyan.com, 5 people died on the spot, and 12 individuals with varying degrees of injuries were transported to medical centers in Talin and Ashtarak. The medical team on duty at Ashtarak Hospital acted promptly, providing first aid to the injured before their transfer to the hospital.
The deceased were found outside the vehicle, in different locations. Some of the injured were assisted by rescuers, citizens, and doctors to reach the ambulance.
A criminal case has been initiated under part 3 of Article 242 of the RA Criminal Code (a traffic accident resulting in the death of two or more people due to negligence). The police are identifying the driver, the deceased, and the injured.
A photojournalist reports that accidents, including tragic ones, frequently occur in this area, and both the traffic police and the officers of the Talin division of the police, along with the regional prosecutor, have repeatedly approached the Ministry of Territorial Administration and Infrastructure of the RA to equip the area with necessary signage. Yet every time they are promised that the issue will be resolved, but nothing has changed.
