It Is a Source of Pride That the Ombudsman's True Independence Is Acknowledged, Says Tatoyan

Arman Tatoyan, the Human Rights Defender of Armenia, published a quote from a recent report by the Venice Commission of the Council of Europe on his Facebook page. The quote and the Defender's comment are as follows:

“The Human Rights Defender of Armenia is an Ombudsman with 'A' status and a national institution for human rights, with extensive experience in areas related to its status under human rights and constitutional law. This institution, as a key player in the rule of law, democracy, and the strengthening of human rights, can play a crucial role in their development and consolidation in Armenia.”

Just before this, the OSCE/ODIHR also adopted a similar document. I would like to underline that it is a source of pride when the ‘A’ status of the Human Rights Defender of the Republic of Armenia is acknowledged at the highest international levels, affirming its true independence and the key role it plays in the country. I thank our international partners for recognizing our work, and I congratulate our entire staff for receiving such honorable evaluations. I will provide a detailed commentary on the essence of the documents shortly.
