Increase in Water Prices Amid Rising Food Costs Will Be a Serious Challenge for People, Economist
The rise in water tariffs will have negative consequences for society, especially for the socially vulnerable sectors, economist Karken Khachatryan said in an interview with Aysor.am.
“In fact, amid the simultaneous rise in food prices, the increase in the price of water, without any increase in incomes, will be a serious challenge for people. Considering the current poverty levels and even the low incomes of working individuals, naturally, a more than 10% increase in water prices will directly affect the quality of life, and social issues will manifest more sharply,” the economist noted.
It is noteworthy that the price of water will increase starting January 1, 2022. A current rate of 180 drams will apply to socially disadvantaged consumers, while a rate of 200 drams will be set for other consumers.
