CEO Mark Zuckerberg is expected to announce it during the Connect annual conference scheduled for October 28, though it could happen sooner.

According to sources cited by The Verge, the name change aims to signal the tech giant's expansion. Apparently, the rebranding is intended to help Facebook position itself as one of many products that also oversees Instagram, WhatsApp, Oculus, and several other companies.

Zuckerberg will unify Facebook, Messenger, WhatsApp, and Instagram. Facebook is not the first high-profile tech company to change its name as its ambitions grow.
