Aghvan Hovsepyan Refuses to Transfer to Civil Hospital
The former head of the Investigative Committee, Aghvan Hovsepyan, has refused to be transferred to a civil hospital. This was stated by his lawyer, Sasun Rafaelyan, in an interview with hraparak.am.
It is worth noting that some time ago, we published material regarding the defense team's application to the correctional institution, requesting permission for Hovsepyan to be transferred to a hospital, which had been granted.
The lawyer said: “Mr. Hovsepyan preferred not to be transferred to a civil hospital, indicating that if there is still an opportunity for the doctor to provide medical care within the correctional facility, he prefers to stay in the penitentiary and receive medical services under those conditions, so as not to give rise to speculation on this issue later. Currently, he is receiving all necessary treatments within the penitentiary. If the doctor indicates that it is no longer possible to provide proper medical assistance in the correctional facility, then he will be transferred.”
According to the lawyer, Hovsepyan's preferred doctor has visited him from outside the penitentiary. The lawyer also reported that they are preparing an appeal regarding the measure of restraint to the Court of Cassation. The former official of the investigative body has not participated in the investigative actions.
It should be reminded that, according to the official statement, A. Hovsepyan has been charged with legalizing especially large property obtained through criminal means amounting to 1,299,404,414 AMD (money laundering) in several episodes. According to the statement, he has actively participated in the management of several limited liability companies engaged in entrepreneurial activities, besides having received a bribe of 190,000,000 AMD and committed fraud amounting to the theft of property valued at 800,000,000 AMD.
