A Man Risks His Life to Retrieve His Horse from Enemy Positions

On October 8, Azerbaijanis drove away the horse of Hrach Abrahamyan, a resident of the village of Khndzoresk in the Syunik province. The horse remains with the Azerbaijanis and has not been returned. This was stated in an interview with Lurer.com by the resident of Khndzoresk.

“As of today, my horse is with the Azerbaijanis. I have reached out to everyone— our military, the mayor, peacekeepers—but no one is addressing this issue. I see the animal regularly. They bring it and tie it near our and their borders, and I also see how they ride it, moving from position to position,” he said.

When asked whether there have been many instances in the village where Azerbaijanis tried to steal horses, our interlocutor said that this happens very often. He recounted that, on one occasion, the owner of a stolen horse went to the Azerbaijani positions voluntarily, risking his life to retrieve the animal. “There have been many cases where they tried to steal our horses. There was even an incident where they stole a farmer's horse from one of their nearby positions and kept it for a month. It would have remained there if, one day, the owner hadn’t risked his life and gone to the Azerbaijani positions to bring his horse back,” said Hrach Abrahamyan, adding that he would have done the same as his fellow villager, but the situation is a bit different here, as the Azerbaijani positions are far away. “I have to cross the border at least 500-600 meters to reach the animal,” emphasized the Khndzoresk resident.

He also stressed that Azerbaijani soldiers behave very badly towards them: “They mock us, throw stones in the direction of our positions. They have always behaved like this,” concluded Hrach Abrahamyan.
