Under What Conditions Will Tuition Fees for Contract Servicemen Be Fully Compensated? Draft Law

The Standing Committee on Science, Education, Culture, Diaspora, Youth and Sports of the National Assembly of Armenia discussed for the first time on October 19 a draft law authored by the Government on amendments to the law "On Military Service and the Status of Servicemen." According to Deputy Minister of Education, Science, Culture and Sports Karen Tchachyan, it is proposed to add a new part to Article 67 of the law:

“The state provides full reimbursement of tuition fees in the form of student benefits to learners studying in the paid system of accredited educational institutions operating in the Republic of Armenia, who have acquired the status specified in the first part of this article during their studies, in accordance with the procedure established by the Government of the Republic of Armenia.”

It should be noted that Article 67 of the current law “On Military Service and the Status of Servicemen” guarantees the admission of former servicemen who have the right to a military pension due to disability of the 1st or 2nd group or the parents, spouse (wife) of deceased (fallen) servicemen under the age of 27 to accredited educational institutions in the Republic of Armenia included in the list determined by the Government of the Republic of Armenia through a separate competition, outside the general competition, provided they pass exams with positive scores, at the expense of the state budget resources, in accordance with the procedure established by the Government of the Republic of Armenia.

If accepted, the law will enter into force on the tenth day after its official publication and will also apply to legal relations arising before the adoption of this law.

The initiative received a positive conclusion from the committee and will be included in the draft agenda of the NA session.
