Saakashvili May Be Hospitalized: Doctors Discuss His Health Condition
Doctors recommend that former President of Georgia Mikheil Saakashvili be transferred to a hospital for preventive reasons, as there is already a high probability that his health condition will deteriorate.
According to Life.ru, a medical team set up by the Georgian Ministry of Health advises sending Saakashvili for inpatient treatment, who has been on a hunger strike in Rustavi prison for almost 20 days. A physician stated that Saakashvili could be hospitalized in the coming days. At the same time, the specialist did not clarify whether this would be a civilian hospital or a prison facility.
Saakashvili was arrested in Georgia on October 1. Meanwhile, Georgia's Ombudsman Nino Lomjaria announced that he began a hunger strike after his arrest because he disagrees with the charges against him and considers himself a political prisoner.
Saakashvili is involved in several criminal cases in Georgia. The former president has been convicted in absentia for the murder of banker Sandro Girgvliani and the beating of MP Valeri Gelashvili. In the first case, he was sentenced to three years in prison, and in the second, to six.
Additionally, Saakashvili is implicated in cases related to the dispersal of an opposition rally on November 7, 2007, the destruction of the Imedi TV station, and the embezzlement of state budget funds. These cases are still pending in court.
