Hearings on 'Azerbaijan vs. Armenia' Concluded

The second phase of hearings in the case of 'Azerbaijan vs. Armenia' has concluded at the International Court of Justice. The lawyers representing Armenia presented the absurdity and baseless nature of Azerbaijan's allegations before the Court.

To summarize the situation:

Azerbaijan has not provided sufficient evidence for the following claims:

  1. That Armenia allegedly orchestrated hate speech on Twitter.
  2. That Armenia should be held responsible for individual statements made by citizens such as Vova Vardanyan.
    1. That the OMAR should allegedly be shut down. It has been proven to be a non-governmental organization created for self-defense classes.
  3. That Armenia is allegedly aiming to lay landmines to prevent the 'return of Azerbaijani refugees.'
    1. The only 'evidence' presented was a report from Azerbaijan's mine clearance agency, which has been proven to indicate that most of the landmines along the pre-war contact line were destroyed and cleared.

However, Azerbaijan has not specified which mines it placed prior to the war against Artsakh. It also failed to disclose how many mines it has placed in the occupied territories of Artsakh, although it provided the total number of all mines, including those set before the war.

    1. International law does not require the transfer of maps of mined areas; there is no such requirement anywhere.
    2. It is Azerbaijan that has laid a significant number of mines since the 1990s and has not allowed their clearance, also obstructing OSCE efforts directed at that end.
  4. Azerbaijan has not provided evidence that Armenia is hiding or destroying evidence of 'crimes against Azerbaijanis' committed during the war by its citizens/soldiers.

Armenia’s representative, Yeghishe Kirakosyan, and all lawyers have requested the Court to reject Azerbaijan's unfounded request in its entirety.
