Gilead Sciences to Donate 3,000 Vials of COVID-19 Treatment to Armenia

Gilead Sciences has announced that it will donate 3,000 vials of Veklury (Remdesivir) to Armenia to assist hospitalized patients suffering from COVID-19. This information was reported by Businesswire. The company will also provide 1,000 vials to Indonesia.

“As COVID-19 cases rise again around the world and the virus continues to impact many lives, we remain committed to ensuring our medicines reach those in need. These donations are the latest example of our ongoing commitment, and we will continue to work with governments and health authorities to make our medicines available as quickly as possible,” said Johanna Mercier, Chief Commercial Officer of Gilead Sciences.

It is noted that Gilead is working closely with distributor partners and directly with the governments of Armenia and Indonesia to coordinate these donation processes. Veklury is the antiviral standard of care for the treatment of hospitalized COVID-19 patients, and currently more than half of COVID-19 hospitalized patients in the United States are treated with Veklury. Veklury has been approved or authorized for temporary use in approximately 50 countries worldwide.
