The City Where Pashinyan Started Walking Rejected Him, Says MP
“Arushanyan’s victory means that the people do not accept the government’s policy. The residents of Goris have evidenced with their choice that they recognize one mayor and do not accept the criminal cases raised against him,” said Arthur Khachatryan, an MP from the ‘Armenia’ faction, in an interview with 24News regarding the results of the October 17 local government elections held in Syunik and other regions.
“Arushanyan is being accused of distributing electoral bribes, but just as previous accusations could not be substantiated, these ones will also not be able to hold up. I am concerned about how it happened that 50,000 drams were distributed in Gyumri, justifying it by saying that the people have been starving for 30 years and therefore have to receive 50,000 drams in social assistance. They should think about how it is possible that only 24 percent of the population in Gyumri participated in the elections, and from the city where Pashinyan started walking, he was essentially rejected, especially considering that Samvel Balasanyan is in the USA, and the mayoral candidate has been hospitalized and could not organize a proper election campaign,” the MP noted.
