2000 Lari Fine: Changes in Georgia's Entry Rules

The Embassy of Armenia in Georgia has announced updates to the entry rules for foreigners into Georgia. Armenian citizens can enter Georgia through the Bagratashen-Sadakhlo and Bavra-Ninotsminda border checkpoints, which operate daily from 10:00 AM to 12:00 AM.

All foreign citizens are required to fill out an online application at least one hour before entering Georgia. The application must be completed in Georgian or English and should include the following information about the traveler (a separate application must be filled out for each family member, regardless of age):

  • Name
  • Surname
  • Passport number
  • Phone number
  • Email address (a digital code will be sent to this address after submitting the application, which must be presented at the Georgian border checkpoint)
  • Citizenship
  • Country of residence
  • Address in Georgia (home address, hotel, etc.; transit travelers should indicate 'TRANSIT' in the address field)

Children under 10 years of age entering Georgia are exempt from the requirement to present a PCR test at the border checkpoint, as well as from submitting another PCR test within 72 hours of crossing the border.

For Armenian citizens and foreign travelers under the age of 6 years, no negative test or vaccination certificate is needed to enter Armenia.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated Armenian citizens can enter Georgia under the following conditions:

  1. The traveler must present a paper certificate of a negative PCR test result for COVID-19 taken within the last 72 hours at the border checkpoint.
  2. Within 72 hours after crossing the border into Georgia, the traveler must undergo another PCR test in Georgia, otherwise a fine of 2000 Georgian Lari will apply.

While in Georgia, travelers can call the government hotline at 144 from 9:00 AM to 9:00 PM to request contact details for nearby COVID-19 testing laboratories.

If a traveler stays in Georgia for less than 72 hours, they are exempt from the PCR testing requirement.

Unvaccinated or partially vaccinated Armenian and foreign citizens entering Armenia must present a negative PCR test result taken within the last 72 hours at the border checkpoint or, in the absence of a test, take a PCR test at the Bagratashen or Bavra border crossings and self-isolate until they receive the test results within 48 hours. The test results are recorded in the ARMRED system and provided to the person tested no later than 48 hours.

Citizens of Armenia and their family members who are not citizens of Armenia must undergo mandatory hospitalization or isolation for testing, treatment, and prevention of virus transmission if they enter Armenia without being fully vaccinated for COVID-19 or refuse testing at the border checkpoint.

Armenian citizens who have completed the full course of vaccination against COVID-19 can enter Georgia under the following conditions:

  1. Present a paper certificate of a negative PCR test result for COVID-19 taken within the last 72 hours at the border checkpoint.
  2. Present a certificate confirming complete vaccination against COVID-19, according to the specified dosages in the vaccination instructions (all vaccines currently promoted by the Armenian Ministry of Health are also acceptable in Georgia).

Air travelers to Georgia must present only a certificate confirming complete vaccination against COVID-19 in paper form.

Armenian citizens who present proof of complete vaccination for COVID-19 at the border checkpoint are exempt from the requirement to undergo another test within 72 hours after entering the country.

Fully vaccinated Armenian and foreign citizens entering Armenia are exempt from the PCR testing requirement if they present a certificate confirming full vaccination against COVID-19.

The PCR test certificate must be in Russian or English and include the contact details and name of the director of the medical organization that conducted the test, as well as the name, surname, passport number, date of birth (day, month, year), test results, sample number (day, month, year), and time, signed by the head of the organization and stamped with the organization's seal. The vaccination certificate must also be presented in Russian or English, containing the name of the director of the vaccination organization, the name and surname of the vaccinated person, their passport number, date of birth, vaccine brand name, batch number, injection dates for each dose, and signed by the head of the organization or include a barcode/QR code for verification of the vaccination certificate.
