VIDEO: People Flee in Panic as Gunfire Erupts in Beirut
A shooting in the Tayoune area of Beirut has left one person dead and eight others injured, according to Lebanese LBC television. The army is attempting to identify the source of the gunfire.
On Thursday morning, supporters of Shiite parties organized a protest demanding the removal of the lead judge investigating the 2020 explosion in the Beirut port, Tarek Bitar. لبنان Prime Minister Najib Mikati has called for calm among the people and has also convened an urgent meeting of Lebanon's Central Security Council.
The army has cordoned off the area, dispersing throughout the neighborhoods and near their entrances. Patrols have begun, along with searches for snipers to apprehend them, as stated in a tweet by the local army.
